DAMIAN CARDER (Board Member)
I joined the Naenae Intermediate School Board of Trustees in July 2017 as a co-opted member and was elected as a parent representative in 2019.
I live in Waiwhetu with my partner, Rachael, and daughter who currently attends Gracefield School, where I am also a Board Trustee. Originally from England, Rachael and I moved to New Zealand in 2005 and now firmly consider this home. I have worked as a scientist at Callaghan Innovation since 2011.
I believe every student deserves our efforts to give them opportunities for the best education possible. I bring strengths in analytical thinking and process that I hope can contribute to Naenae Intermediate continuing on its journey in striving to give every student a quality education.

“O le ala i le pule, o le tautua....The pathway to leadership is through service"
Talofa, Fakaalofa lahi atu, Kia Orana, Malo e lelei, Malo Ni, Kia Orana and Greetings.
I am the parent of Conner Tuifao who is currently a Year 8 student here at Naenae Intermediate School.
I am a mother of two boys Conner 12 and Heath 9 (who attends Tawhai Primary School), and we are proud All Blacks and Manu Samoa rugby supporters! I have lived in Stokes Valley for 15+ years and previous to this, grew up here in Naenae. I am also a past teacher of Naenae Intermediate so it’s nice to be back.
The Samoan proverb that I have chosen to introduce myself with is one that I hope to be able to contribute and live by within our school community and while on the Board of Trustees.
On the Board of Trustees, I have a real interest in data analysis with a focus on not only Pasifika and Maori achievement, but for all students. I hope to bring my experience of teaching, leadership and data analysis to this group and school. It is an exciting time for us all as a school, and in order to do the role, those of us who have been nominated and successful on the Board of Trustees must also be prepared to serve the people within the school and wider community too

I am pleased to be a part of the NIS Board for another term. This is my seventh year on the Board and I really enjoy the opportunity to contribute to our community in this way. I live in Kelson, and both our kids have been through NIS in the last five years. I work for Fire and Emergency NZ as a Rural Fire Officer. NIS is an amazing school, with great staff and students that are excited about life and learning.

I am a descendant of Rongomaiwahine. I first became involved with Naenae Intermediate 9 years ago as a member of the Board of Trustees. For me this has been a rewarding and challenging experience. One of the things I love about our school is the multi-cultural ethnicity. If we can make a difference in one students life or more then we know what we are doing at our school is working. We have a really good mix of individuals on our Board meeting each month helps us unite as one. Over the years I have seen lots of good things happen at our school. We have seen past students give back as guest speakers, role models. It is most rewarding to know that they attended our school in the past. Aside from being a Board Member I'm also a Mother of 3 girls and a Grandmother of 3 boys. They are my world!
Two of my girls have been past students of the school and my youngest us currently attending as a Year 8 Student

I am the Staff Representative on the Board of Trustees. This is my second year as the Staff BOT rep and I am enjoying the challenges and the enjoyment of success that this role entails. I am also the NZEI Staff rep, our Sports Coordinator, our Cultural Group tutor and the classroom teacher of Room 15. I have been teaching for 24 years and I have taught here at Naenae Int for nearly 20 years. This is a great school with awesome support from the community. I was elected on the NIS Board of Trustees in 2019. My wife and I came from Germany and what was planned to be a 3-5 year adventure more than 12 years ago has turned into a permanent place with two kids going to NZ schools. One boy is at Kelson School where I'm also on the BoT and the older girl is going to St. Oran's College. One of the many great things about living in Lower Hutt is its multi-cultural community with people from all around the world. There is so much we can learn from each other and NIS is a great place for kids to experience this. I'm a Physicist by training and after four exciting years with Philips Medical Research I joined the NZ MetService and have been with this great organisation since. While science is a great passion of mine that was fostered by great school teachers I had I'd like to help the school making decision that in a similar way empowers every student to explore and learn where their strengths are and grow to the best they can be.
