Welcome to Sport at NIS

There are a number of reasons why sport is so important in the development of young children. Participating in a sport you like or are good at can help students build on their self-confidence by learning to trust their own abilities, talents, and judgment. By building your image in sports, you also improve your personal value, which directly impacts your self-esteem.

Here at Naenae Intermediate, we aim to help students develop the necessary skills to allow them to play, participate, and have fun along the way. We provide opportunities in a range of both individual and team-based games throughout the school terms which can also lead to higher honours when they leave us. There are many sports you can play such as Chess, Badminton, Touch, Te Uri, Netball, Swimming, Water Polo, Rugby, Football...the list is only limited to your imagination!

Sport is a great way to make lifelong friends and teach you several essential skills along the way. Come in and join a team.  Please note for all non-WRISSA sports each player will be charged a fee to play for NIS in that code's sports competition.  A letter of interest will be sent home for those who have registered to play.

In 2024 we are hoping that you join us in playing as many different sports as possible, you may even surprise yourself with how good you are!

Registrations and Payments

We follow a 'No pay - No play' policy. For students who have paid and don't get selected in the sport they want, a refund is available.

This year we are also using a contactless payment system. So when you register for a sport and there is a payment required, you will be asked to pay directly through EFTPOS here at school or through internet banking, referencing your child's surname and the sport you are paying for when making payment.  Our bank account details are on our sports registration form (above).

We are always on the lookout for coaches, managers too, so if you're wanting to help out in 2024...then, please let us know or by sending an email to:

We hope that you enjoy your time participating in sports here at our school.  Please select the sports you wish to register for in 2024 by selecting the drop-down tab in the registration form.  Payment and information for the individual sports you select will be sent to you once we have collated our registration lists.

There is an expectation that you are committed to a full season with each sport you choose.  Please check for any clashes with any other extracurricular activities you are involved in.  Make sure you plan and ensure game or practice days don't clash.

When a sports team is registered we are charged entry fees.  There will be a cost for non-WRISSA events.  For your child to be selected to play all fees must be paid before the season begins via online banking.  If you are unsure of the amount owing, please contact our Sports Coordinator Mr Grant Yarrall at: (

For additional information on costs, venues, trial dates and registration for each sport, please check with Mr Yarrall.

A brief timeline for each sport is detailed below. Some sports are based on interest and if we can supply a coach or manager to the team. We are always on the lookout for volunteers, so if you’re interested, please make contact.
